Because of her beauty her father attempted to shield her by locking her in a tower; only her teachers could see her.
Her conversion to Christianity enraged her father causing her to run away.
Barbara was caught and handed over to the authorities. Her punishment was to be beheaded by her father. This happened on Dec. 4th.
Her father and the governor were killed by lightning after her martyrdom. This was seen as Divine punishment for Barbara’s death.
She is one of the 14 Holy Helpers.
She is the patron saint of artillery and architects among others.
